FAQ for Therapy Clients

  • I live in the mountains 30 minutes outside Durango, CO. I offer virtual (teletherapy) sessions and in-person half-day, full-day, and multi-day intensives in Durango. I also travel for intensives.

  • I Utilize a Private Pay Therapy Model

The work I offer is sacred and deeply personal. It is rooted in relationship, embodiment, nervous system attunement, somatic awareness, intuitive inquiry, and the slow unfolding of your inner life. This kind of work cannot be rushed, standardized, or reduced to a billing code.

    Insurance companies require therapists to:

    • Assign a mental health diagnosis to every client, even when symptoms are normal responses to life

    • Justify your care repeatedly to third-party reviewers who have never met you

    • Limit session frequency, duration, and approaches

    • Report clinical details that are not private once submitted to insurance systems

    • Accept reimbursement rates that undervalue the work and restrict sustainability

Healing is not a transaction. It is not a set of symptoms to be managed or a diagnosis to be justified. Healing is a deeply human, relational, embodied process that unfolds in layers over time. It asks to be witnessed with presence, not processed through a system.

The work we do together is not clinical in the way insurance companies define clinical care.

It is somatic, intuitive, relational, integrative, experiential, and shaped by your unique lived experience.

It includes the wisdom of your nervous system, your emotional landscape, your ancestral patterns, and your inner knowing. It is not something that can be reduced to a code, a category, or a time-limited protocol.

Insurance-based therapy models ask therapists to diagnose, categorize, justify, document, and conform. They create invisible pressure to move quickly, to focus on what is "clinically necessary," and to prove that your pain meets certain criteria. They limit what can be explored. They prioritize symptom reduction over soul-level transformation. And they require the therapist to share parts of your story that are not private once submitted to insurance systems.

I believe your healing is sovereign. Which means: You deserve to be the one who decides the pace of your growth. You deserve to be met as a whole person, not a diagnosis. You deserve counseling that honors the intelligence of your body and the depth of your inner world.

By paying for therapy privately, we are choosing a path that is spacious, relationally attuned, and guided by your unique unfolding.

We step out of the system so we can step into truth.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Will you still provide superbills?
Yes. If your insurance plan covers Out-of-Network mental health services, you can submit a superbill for potential reimbursement. I will provide monthly superbills through the client portal.

Do I need a diagnosis to submit a superbill? Yes. Insurance reimbursement typically requires an appropriate diagnostic code. If a diagnosis is clinically relevant and ethically aligned with your care, I will include one. However, if a diagnosis does not feel appropriate or supportive, we can discuss that and explore options.

What if I cannot afford private pay therapy? There are several options we can explore:

    • Adjusting session frequency to align with your resources

    • Discussing shorter-term focused work

    • Referrals to trusted colleagues and community-based resources

Healing is not about urgency. It unfolds when space is created and supported.

What are your current session rates? My current session rates reflect the depth, training, and level of attuned relational work I provide. Rates are listed on my scheduling page and discussed during consultation.

Can we talk about this in session? Absolutely. There is room for your feelings, your questions, your concerns, your hopes, and your fears. We will navigate this transition together, gently and at your pace.

Choosing to work privately allows us to:

    • Move at the pace your body and spirit actually need

    • Work creatively, intuitively, and relationally

    • Include somatic, trauma-informed, experiential, and transpersonal work that insurance does not recognize

    • Protect your privacy, your story, and your dignity

    • Build a long-term therapeutic relationship free from interference

Your healing is not something to be coded, justified, or negotiated with a corporation.

I choose to practice in a way that honors the fullness of you.

  • I work Monday - Thursday from 9am - 5pm, and offer intensives (by appointment only) on Fridays and Saturdays.

Once you’re an established client, you will be able to view my availability and make scheduling changes or requests through a secure online client portal.

If you need to change the ongoing day and/or time of your sessions, I will do my best to accommodate you within the confines of my schedule.

  • I have a firm 24-hour cancellation / reschedule policy.

Please let me know as soon as possible via the client portal, email, or text if you will not be able to attend your scheduled appointment.

Canceling a session with less than 24-hour notice will be considered a late cancellation. Late cancellations and missed appointments (“no-shows”) will be charged to your credit card on file, at the full session rate.

If you are running more than 5 minutes late for a scheduled session, please contact me by text to let me know.

If I do not hear from you, I will allow a 10-minute grace period for lateness, after which time I will close the session and count it as a missed appointment, and you will be charged for the missed session.
